SmashFund - the next best social media and crowdfunding platform in one?

There is a discussion about what is the next big social media site and I wanted to give this a special thread of its own.

So I came across SmashFund a little while back and I wrote a review on my website about it. They claim to be the next big social media website, they are going to be so big they will put Facebook to shame... and they are a CrowdFunding platform too.

What they look like to me like a blatant pyramid scheme... you pay $149 a month to be a member (kinda hefty for social media right) and then anyone you directly recruit you earn $50 a month from.. and anyone else you connect with you earn $4 a month from.

Oh and the crowdfunding part.. well not so sure about this because it appears you don't really need a reason to get money for any project or whatever because you get money through recruiting.

So I posted my review on them on my website and a Youtube video too... and there are a lot of haters of my reviews calling me crazy and close-minded.

So what do you think?

So basically I have to pay $149 a month in order to have a chance at obtaining funds? I make $50 a month for anyone I sign up, for as long as they stay signed up. That means I would have to have at least 3 members stay signed up in order to break even each month.

This type of system has never worked in the past and will most likely not work again lmao SmashFund - the next best social media and crowdfunding platform in one? Even linkedin lets you have a free account and gives you the option to upgrade your account to have access to pro features. With SmashFund you need to pay up front to have access to basic features lmao SmashFund - the next best social media and crowdfunding platform in one? I can see this as an affiliates dream, but I think they system is more focused on referring people than actually networking and that's why I don't think it'll be sustainable. It won't offer anything to people in terms of knowledge or experience, it's only about money. It's a nice concept but if there's nothing there to sustain it, besides the money, it's probably going to tank. Sure it might of had finding from an angel investor or an investment company, but it will rely on people advertising it and actually getting sign ups in order to thrive.

The content on the site is pretty scarce and doesn't give me enough to convince me to sign up.

And as Webguy2024 said, you can't find a definite way to contact anyone at smashfund so to me that seems a little shady. If they had their phone number and even a support@ email I'd be a little more at ease to sign up. But then I'd be asked for an upfront payment and I'd get turned off immediately SmashFund - the next best social media and crowdfunding platform in one?

LOL well they contacted me.. well sort of. They copyright slapped the Youtube video I took of their insiders area... which pre-launch had nothing in it. You couldn't even add a profile picture. There was one thing they gave you and that was your affiliate link.

I also had one of the founding members contact me on my website in the comments and say I can call him directly and he will explain it to me because I just don't understand how it works. I found that very amusing. Why not just explain it properly on your own website so everyone can understand?

Here is the pitch see below
The only problem is there is no definable contact information (are they a real company)? A real corporate address with definable contact info is what I am looking for in engaging with a company. This separates the the maybe companies from the real deals... Just saying...

Here's my initial thoughts of the website:
  • Wow, okay, they have HTTPS in their URL
  • The site seems to be branded
  • The site seems to have an okay design, still a bit amateur though
  • The site seems to have mobile responsive design
  • The site seems to be based in the US state of Delaware, this is where I currently reside
  • You have to pay a fee of $149 per month

Well, that's where I stopped, $149 per month to create crowdfunding campaigns? What the freak?! Are they serious? I could EASILY code a website just like the site and offer like $5 per month to sign up, but eh that system always tanks as you all have said. Lynne, your review was spot on, you have a VERY good eye for scammy websites, and don't ever feel discourage due to backlash on your reviews.

LO Everett I LOVE my haters actually... why do they think my reviews do so well? Because the haters engage so much with me.. ok they are spewing out hate speech yes and they give my Youtube videos a big thumbs down.

The thing is I don't think these haters realize what they are doing for me... any engagement is great for my rankings. My reviews rank high and they rank fast... and they stay there because of them haters.

Haters, you ROCK, you do half my work for me SmashFund - the next best social media and crowdfunding platform in one? Keep them coming! LOL

Every one of this ripoffs claim that they are next BIG THING, creating such thoughtful intro pages, lucrative videos etc... I have feeling that's made by same goup of people again and again. But they never worked in long run. I have seen some of these in the past where first couple hundreds members really made nice amount of money and they were spreading the word like crazy SmashFund - the next best social media and crowdfunding platform in one? but yet non of these big bang sites are still alive just because it's not working. For short time they make a lot of money then start another similar project under different name...

Yes same old stuff isn't it? So many people use that line and things like "never seen before"... make money "on complete autopilot"... anything like that screams of a scam to me.

Yes that is what gets me, is these scammers just keep doing the same thing over and over again. Are they not ever locked up? This guy Rob Towles has been involved in a law suit before, for Efusjon but now he (and other people involved with that previous lawsuit, like Kent Vander Kamp) is just doing it all over again?

Eh... So.. Okay.. Well.. RIP.
I really need some money to launch a superb idea I have. Let's go with crowdfunding. It's an amazing option!

Step 1. Pay $149 per month..... Wouldn't think so.

Seriously, I would never in my life pay $149 per month for something like that.. Why on earth would anyone do something that stupid?

However, I bet it's THE perfect opportunity for all big affiliates to make BANK over night. This sounds extremely shady.. but hey, let's see in a few months how things turned out. You should never say never.

Best Regards,

I would definitely not do it. How can they possibly think anyone is going to be willing to pay that kind of money per month. Even in a year I consider it to be a lot!

There are loads of people ripping into me for my review, calling this out as a BS opportunity and from what I can see is loads of people have jumped on board.

Like you I also won't pay $149 for something like that, but hey you are so right maybe this is the next best thing... who knows I might just regret not joining early and I might be looking like a downright idiot for my website and Youtube reviews some time in the future.

Just with the mention of the $149 a month as membership dues, it is very clear that it is a scam. And to think that the website wants you to recruit for more victims, that is a big investment that will surely go to waste. I have said in one discussion before that investing money online is a gamble. The big risk is that you don’t even know the physical office of the website that if it closes then you are left hanging in the air. With this Smashfund, I can bet that it is a scam so beware and spread the word.
