Pokémon Go Causing Injuries and Even Car Crashes and Robberies!

In case you didn't know, Pokémon Go is an Augmented Reality game for Android and iPhone users where players must catch Pokémon in different locations. The game has been downloaded 7.5 million times since its release the other week. And while the game might be good at getting people outside and to exercise, it doesn't come without risks and is actually causing people to have accidents, injuries and even car crashes!

Many of the games players are reporting tripping up, falling over and even putting themselves at risk of getting run over and involved in near fatal collisions as they throw Pokéballs at Pikachu whilst driving around.

One 28 year old driver who was distracted while playing Pokémon Go, actually crashed his car into a tree in New York, who subsequently broke his ankle in the crash. To say he escaped "lucky" is an understatement when you see the damage to his car!

Some people are even luring unsuspecting players into traps and holding them at gun point to rob them! A group of teenagers were recently robbed at gun point after being lured to a remote location to "catch 'em all".

So guys, if you play Pokémon Go, please keep your senses about you! Watch out for what you're doing, what's in front of you and your surroundings! And parents, if you let your kids play this game, please please make sure you know where they are and that they're not going to "remote locations" while playing it.

I've heard about all this on the news, and I barely watch the news. So for me to actually hear about this when I barely watch the news goes to show that the Pokemon Go app is insanely popular. I have not downloaded the app myself, and I do not intend to download the app, because I'm too lazy and don't feel like walking all over my town.

However, this app is getting people out of their houses to get fresh air and exercise. So with that aspect I would hope people would be safe and pay attention to their surroundings and not walk in traffic, or cause accidents as what was stated in the initial post.

I have a couple of friends who are using it and they are reasonable about it. When we were out last weekend they just wanted a short deviation in order to go to a certain point because of the game. I am sure that had it been a long walk to get there they would not have done it. It is all about being realistic and responsible and unfortunately there are MANY people who aren't, apart from immature players such as teens who could easily get into trouble or in risky situations. I am worrying about all of these repercussions this game is causing. Something needs to be done.

I believe it is up to the consumer to be responsible when playing a virtual reality game out in a public arena. I don't necessarily think the game should be banned due to hazards the app can create. Now, it's not the apps fault if players are in danger in certain areas, or if hubspot or whatever they call it is in a bad area of town I think it's user generated?

People need to be more aware of their surroundings, and think with their brains. I guess this is an experiment really to see if humans can actually be mature and responsible with virtual reality technology.. so far it's not looking too good.

Yes I agree that it is up to the individual, however it is a known fact that there are many young teens playing this game, and so the responsibility falls on their parents. There are many who do all sorts of things while driving, and now this game is also commonly used to make drivers forget about their driving safely responsibility. I was thinking that it might be better if the pokemon could only be found indoors, so as to avoid people roaming about outdoors or driving while playing. Don't know if that is something that could done.

well you have smart friends indeed , see people have to understand there are limits too what has an ok and does not. paying more attention to an app then your surroundings already sounds like a bunch of trouble . it can be bad enough that so many people spend so much time texting and driving or being on the phone in general or things of that nature , they fail to realize the risk that are involved everything that involves humans involves risk and by the end of the day its all about making sure your safe you have smart friends , very responsible

They don't often weigh the risks though. I mean, I wouldn't if a new app came out and I wanted to catch all the Pokemon before everyone else. It's like an adrenaline rush of some kind. It's exciting to go to areas to catch pokemon, and especially if you haven't been to a specific area in the past.

I actually would love playing this game, but I don't have the time to fit it into my schedule.. Not sure how many Pokemon I can catch within a 100 foot radius of where I live, and it'll probably be like 2 pokemon.. lol. Just tell your friends to be more responsible, and go with them if they decide to go to a bad area of town. Remember the saying: "Go in pairs."

yea i mean you got a few valid points i have to agree to disagree though, it should not ever have to come down to weighing the risk when it comes to an app . if any thing apps do not involve any real physical risks nobody downloads an app and gets hurt there really are not risks involved more times it really is just a lack of common sense , if you know you have to explore to play the app it is also up to you to responsible enough to be aware of your surroundings at all time honestly . app aside it falls on the person by the end of the day

Very true, however people are going to do what they want. I just hope people realize that while out in the public, with the app running that they take into consideration their surroundings and the people near them.

It's horrifying to think you're driving down the street, and the person in the other lane is trying to catch Pokemon. I'm not trying to down play anything, however it does fall upon the person to be more responsible.

I have a slight feeling that the app may get removed if fatalities were to occur. Which isn't indirectly the app developers fault, it's the irresponsible users.

Yes there is no doubt that there is that ecstatic feeling of wanting to be one of the best at the game. There is that rush and without doubt it is one of the main reasons why the game is so popular.

I have heard about the app it is turning out to be really successful a lot of people i know personally are into playing i personally do not have the app or have ever played it, but my friends and family seem to enjoy it, i was not aware though that it could be so dangerous, people have to take more responsibility in what they are doing car accidents off of apps should not happen driving is a privilege not a right , you know like the old saying goes there is most definitely a time and place for every thing

Oh man, that is insane and this is the first I've heard of it!

I can't believe that a game could cause such chaos.

Why are people playing a game while driving? Have these people got no common sense?

Well.. people do many things while driving: eating, makeup, recording, texting, calling, etc. No matter what is in place for those that do these acitivities people just don't seem to care. They don't value other's lives I'm guessing. I wouldn't want to take a life of someone becuase of my negligence. I think people need to be more mature, and responsible especially for those that are around them, and espeically if you're playing a virtual reality game.

When does the real world start, and the virtual reality word end? People may be addicted to VR due to games such as Pokemon Go. They won't want to live in the real world, and will escape to their VR world, that's what the future has in store apparently.. lol

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Lynne
Yes I see that happening too. I worry because things like that can become addictive. People that don't want to face reality get sucked into VR and then what?

Addiction can take many forms and anything that has great escapism will cause big problems.

I'm assuming the players of the Pokemon Go game wouldn't realize that they are addicted to it. They may think that it's safe or whatever but one can get addicted to the virtual reality aspect. I mean if my life was much more easier via virtual reality, I too would probably become heavily addicted to virtual reality, and it wouldn't matter if it was via a video game or not.

The psychologist will have a great time with their new patients due to virtual reality addiction. Since technology is progressing so fast, new addictive behaviors are being created almost every day.

Oh yes for sure, there is already porn addiction, internet addiction, Facebook addiction and gaming addiction but I think this takes it to an all new level doesn't it,.

Yes, it basically does. People will get so use to virtual reality that they won't want to be in physical reality. I guess physical reality is too hard for some so they go to their virtual reality for some type of comfort.

I wouldn't go to a virtual reality to escape real reality. I mean, it's quite fun to battle your issues, and it's never ending! I mean wouldn't you gain so much life experience?

I wonder why there was a Pokemon at an ex-girlfriends house. I hope the Pokemon was a rare, or hard to catch Pokemon. I would not go to any of my ex'es houses just to catch a Pokemon, that is just crazy.

And I wasn't aware that the app used some type of GPS system. I also wonder how secure the GPS system is, as I wouldn't want anyone tracking my every move. Do you know if there is a way to disable the GPS?

I know that this is a past issue and almost no one is playing Pokemon Go anymore. But I find those incidents or accidents outrageous. I’m not saying I don’t believe in those news. What I mean by outrageous is that a player plays the game for fun and entertainment. And when there is the risk of an injury or harm then why play that kind of game? Maybe that is one of the reasons why people quit playing Pokemon Go. It is not convenient and albeit it poses a risk to health and person.

I personally didn't have any problems with the insurance company. I pretty much agreed on good terms with the agent. I don't know if it's in the company if I made out with this company https://www.moneyexpert.com/car-in...-term-insurance/. However, there is one thing, I always took out short-term insurance. That is, I took out insurance on my 4x4 for a maximum of four months. Maybe there were no problems because of this, but the price was relatively low as it seemed to me. By comparison, how much my friends pay for their cars, I think I'm still lucky. Well, or I got to a good company on the client's side, which can also be.
