Is sharing ideas a good thing?

I was thinking about the business ideas I had over the years, on some I've acted upon and had some success with them but with others I just kept them to myself, telling nobody and doing nothing even when I had the opportunity to share it with somebody able to make a difference and put them into practice.

The result was pretty clear if you don't share your ideas eventually somebody else will get the same idea, act on it and take your place. The conclusion is simple if you know you won't willing to act on it, share it! Take the moral high ground and do be selfish, I guarantee you at least you will feel better about the whole thing and who knows, maybe you'll actually take part in implementing your own idea, funded by somebody else who really saw something in you!

What do you think? Do you share openly or do you keep every good idea for yourself and do nothing to act upon them?

This is actually quite interesting..
I seriously get new ideas on a regular basis.. Often several times per day. - However, I act on about 1% of all the ideas I get.

50% of the ideas I get, is openly shared with others. Close friends or on different communities. The remaining 49%, is "secretly" stored somewhere in my brain.. - Perhaps for "later use"..

But, the thing is, that "later" never really seems to occur.. - And that's why I need to partner up with people to launch all my projects!

Sharing ideas is a good thing if you share them with people you can trust.....
if you have business ideas or any other ideas, before launching them it is better to get comments and others ideas about it....... it will make your idea even more good..... but make sure you share them with a trusted person, if you share them with a stranger, maybe he will steal your ideas and you will loose your idea,hard work and success..........

so sharing ideas is good if you share with the right person

It really depends on who you share your idea's with. Having idea's is great but if you share them with the wrong person and intend to act on that idea and they steal that idea you lose that idea and have no proof that you ever thought of that idea. I would only share ideas I had with someone I knew I could trust enough not to take my ideas and use them, that I feel is the most difficult part as even if you feel you can trust someone, sometimes they can be sly so I would also base it on friendship as well as trust, do they value our friendship enough to not steal my idea?

I would usually keep my ideals to my self, because you just can't trust everyone now a days, some people live just to steal ideals from others, and if the ideal is good enough is should only be told to people that you know will not steal your ideal, and cash in off of your mind.

That is true, when you have an stagnating idea on your mind that wouldn't find fruition, there will come a time that someone would think of it. I have a friend who is a scriptwriter for the movies. When he has a new word on his mind, he would include it in his list so he wouldn't forget. But sometimes he even forgets to consult his list of new (invented) words to include in his script. One was the word "talentado" which means talented but is not a legitimate word in our language. It was used by another writer, just by sheer coincidence. As with the business idea, one good purpose of forums is in sharing such ideas that can benefit others.

Sharing ideas is a good thing only when you are not sure of you. If it is a really good idea you should keep it for your self and not share with anyone, and you must start to put in practice...who knows you may have success. If you are not sure of your idea you should share it and hear other opinions about it, but doing this you may risk like your idea to be stolen and used by someone else!

Sharing your ideas may actually be a good thing as others may help you to achieve whatever you want to. However, you must know with whom you are sharing your ideas. I personally know some people who have shared their ideas with others and then the other people stole their ideas.

I think you can share some of the good content in the business circle.But do note that if your idea gets implemented by others. You can't really make the most out of the business and stuff. Not sure how the idea copyrighting works. But the day you implement it is the only thing is matters. So till then your idea can be shared and reused by others. So this should give you some understanding of how the things works as well. I am guessing for most part that can be good enough too.

I guess sharing is good for those who want to get feedback. But idea being stolen may happen in such case.

It's a good idea to share ideas but with people you can trust. It's amazing sometimes when you share an idea with a trustworthy individual only to find out that that person was thinking somewhere along the lines and both of you may have approached the concept from two different angles. This means that you would have both enhanced each others' ideas. The strength is within this unity and such a force is recommended as this is a force to be reckoned with as this union brings the idea many steps closer to becoming a reality.

I share ideas with people that I can really trust and once I notice any betrayal of trust, I stay away from sharing those ideas with them.

Just like everything else in life, when it comes to sharing ideas you need to use good judgment and discretion. Some people have “itching ears” and they'll steal your thoughts and make sure you don't get a penny for them.

Sharing ideas is not my problem but who I am sharing it with, people are sometimes very funny, They don't mind running with your idea, stealing it and acting faster on it than you the originator.So since I can't trust anybody with my ideas, I rather keep it to myself than share it and it will be gone with my confidant.

I usually share ideas, opinions and suggestions on forum sites, I don't keep them to myself. I want everyone to earn money online too. Then we can help each other. If you do good, others will do good to you too

Sharing is definitely a good thing whether it is ideas or any other thing. That’s one element why I am into forums because I enjoy the sharing of knowledge. That means I get compensated with my sharing by learning from the sharing of others. I have to admit that my technical knowledge had been greatly enhanced with the information that I get from the forums. And whenever I have something to share, I don’t hesitate because I know that sharing is a two-way street.
