Is Tumblr worth using?

Tumblr is a microblogging and social networking website that was launched in 2007 which allows users to express themselves, discover themselves and communicate with so many people. It allows users to upload multimedia contents in blog form. But with so many other social media sites floating around, do you think that Tumblr is worth is investing one's time on?

As of today, I have 7 Tumblr blogs or microblogs. I compare Tumblr to being like a Twitter account with “extras”. It's a respected social media platform, the search engine can find it, and it makes social media sharing super easy! On top of that, you are allowed to have affiliate links in your content. So if you ask me if Tumblr is “worth” using my answer is Yes! Right now I am trying to build my following. I have plans to do more although I don't quite know what to do. I want to use Tumblr to generate an income stream.

How are you using tumblr? To generate traffic and backlink to your main site or to blog on this platform? I did try tmblr account once. I think I still have account if they have not deleted for inactivity. I started sharing my links to my hubpages aricles with a teaser. I did not get any traffic to my hubages articles, therefore, I stopped.
Do you think I should start sharing links again? Is there any benefit?

For some reason, I didn't get traffic for my HUBPages either so I also stopped. I don't use Tumblr for detailed blog posts. I use Tumblr more for the social sharing aspect. Tumblr has changed owners twice since I started with it but I hung around to see what would happen.

At one time they were going to share revenues from affiliate marketing. But that idea never came to fruition. It was one of the reasons I hung around though.

Also at one time, they allowed Google Ad Sense. But when ownership changes my ads get zapped. Being able to use Ad Sense was another reason I was using Tumblr.

What I do now with Tumblr is to combine the sharing of content with other social media platforms like Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and We Heart It. All of those platforms are recognized by the search engines, so it is good for backlinks. Tumblr just made a major change and deleted the adult content or porn blogs. That had no effect on my blogs and it doesn't look like it had a major impact on Tumblr either.

I rambled and I'm sorry about that. I use Tumblr for sharing. That's really what the originator David Karp had in mind when he created Tumblr. He wanted a tool that made social sharing easy. I also place affiliate ads in certain spots on the blog because affiliate referral links are allowed. For me, that's the benefit.

I was aware about dropping affiliate links on tumblr, however, I did not know thy also accepted adsense. can we still use adsense on tumblr?
I never posted a long article on tumbrl. I published short posts and shared my links. I stopped when I did not get any traffic. I also failed to get followers for my tumblr blog. When you do not have a lot of followers, you are not going to benefit from social media.

I DO NOT KNOW WHY. Some of my Tumblr blogs have been approve for Ad Sense. But even though I place the code on the site, the ads dod not display. I tried several times. Asked around. Nobody has given me an answer. (O.o) BUMMER!

I think you should try it out again, though you might not get much traffic since people aren't much there but you will do better with it now than then. Just try to be a bit active on it too.

Just wondering, what do you post in your Tumblr blogs? How effective is it?

It's good to hear such analysis from a personal user of Tumblr. I am really not a fan of other social media sites. I only use Facebook for communication and for some transaction purposes while I only made an account for Twitter this year for business purposes. So, basically I don't have that much knowledge about other social media sites.

Tumblr is just like any other social networks. But it hosts a more or less different communities than what you commonly find on other bigger social-networking platforms like Facebook. I think if you could make your blog conform into their specific community while relating it to your own purpose then I would say that Tumblr is worth your time. After all, it is still know and it could still be searched easily on the web. So as far as accessibility, I think that Tumblr is still a good place to go.

It depends on what you're trying to do. If you want to promote a business or boost a website's SEO, there are many other social networks like Instagram and Twitter that would be more useful for that purpose. The popularity of Tumblr seems to have gone down recently.

Yeeah it has gone down but still it's popularity is huge especially among the people that use it for business reasons.

I think that it depends on what you are using it for. What niche to you want to use Tumblr to promote? I know that Tumblr is good for fashion. I have never heard anyone use it to promote in any other niche. I think that you should do your research as to what w niches are popular on Tumblr.

That's true, Tumblr doesn't look as open to content as other social media sites. It's kind out of place seeing stuff about businesses there. I don't think it's commonly used for anything besides recreation.

I have heard a lot about Tumblr but never used it myself. I can't help but feel that these days it's a little outdated. I feel like it peaked around 2010-2011 and I don't think it's been as popular since. I also feel like that time frame was the real heyday of blogging and that the overall popularity of blogs has also decreased in this decade.

You are wrong. Tumblr is still popular, a lot of people use tumblr for blogging. Tumblr allows you to share affiliate links. You can monetize your tumblr blog with affiliate networks. Whether you can make money from tumblr or not depends on your followers, traffic and clicks on your affiliate links.

Interesting - I wonder if it’s just lost its luster here in my country. Good to know though, thank you for letting me know!

I actually don't use Tumblr. Nowadays, especially in our country, it's not really the trend and we prefer Twotter, Facebook and Instagram.

Twitter, facebook and instagram does not offer you a blogging platform. Well you can create long posts on facebook and instagram, however, the audience on these platforms are not used to long posts, they will simply ignore. However, on tumblr you can post articles. You can share affiliate links and make money. If you do not have a self hosted website, you can use tumblr for blogging.

I heard about that site before but then I was not able to use it or give a try on it since I am not so familiar on its features. Besides it is not also popular here in my country because most of the time we use Facebook as our social media platform that makes most of our time.

I was able to use that social media platform last year but because of its low popularity in our country, I end up not using it at all. Tumblr is great reall, it has amazing features and is user friendly. I just don’t think it will thrive much longer since people are now inclined to use different social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

I have tumblr account, however, I am not using tumblr these days. Even though I m not using tumblr, I see a value in using tumblr. This is not just another social networking site. It is also a social blogging platform, where you can blog as well as network with other people. If you have a blog, you can share the links on tumblr for backlinks and traffic.

To be honest, I've made an account on Tumblr, an year or two, but never found myself using it, God knows why. Personally I didn't see the whole point of Tumblr, as there are better alternatives out there.

Tumblr used to be popular back then, now I'm not so sure. I think the users dwindled down a bit compared to how it was back then. I had one that I've used since it first came out but I forgot my email and password already so I can't retrieve that account anymore. I think Tumblr is still a good site, I'm honestly thinking about using it again. I think I will!

Unfortunately Tumblr is already dying. Tumblr just lost a majority of its users when it banned porn (funnily enough), and the last time I visited the site it was just full of online activists or some very loyal tumblr users.

Tumblr's growing more and more... hostile to content creators. They've been cracking down on adult content, and it's affecting the people who use it as an platform and archive for their works. The recent nosedive might not be something that tumblr can recover from. I wouldn't say it's worth using anymore at this point. They've been changing the ToS so often that it's frustrating.

Tumblr used to be good. It has a lot of traffic. But these days they seem to be deleting the blogs quickly. And for that reason I think people need to move to better sources. i think some of the people have moved to dreamwidth. Though apart from that I think tumblr is good for posting the images like say instagram. If you want to get quick attention then instagram is lot better in that case.

I haven’t really tried making an account in Tumblr. I know someone who has one and he says that this social media platform is also great, though not that popular in our country. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are the most widely used social media platforms in our country and very few are using Tumblr. Despite all of this, I believe it’s wondeful if people would give it a try.

The funny thing is that I have a Tumblr account i hardly check. Whenever I want to share something on social media, I sometimes share to my Tumblr account but for months now, I have not logged on to see what is up with my account so I can't tell if it's worth it or not.

To be honest, I don't use Tumblr because I don't find it very useful to me. like I don't feel like using it. I prefer using Twitter because it is very reliable especially if you're looking for an up to date news or an upcoming event's.

I think maybe you should invest in that site I don't know if its a good way to invest to do some business, but if you do some research and you think it's good to go for it, but if they had bad reviews you should think a little and think deeply about what your going to do.

I am familiar with Tumblr but don't have an account. I don't find it useful for me since I don't do blogging. I don't even understand nor see the importance of it before. I prefer to use Facebook, Youtube and Twitter as means of my social media activity. I'm not sure today if Tumblr is still working effectively for the bloggers.

I didn't see much variety of topics on Tumblr, it's mostly about fashion and aesthetic things and entertainment, it doesn't seem too inclined to other topics. I don't believe that anything outside those spheres is too sought after by its users.

In terms of promoting a business any social media platform is good to cultivate because people is what we need when we do marketing. If you can harness a good number of people to your posts in Tumblr then I guess you can be getting substantial traffic because of the reactions that your post will get. There are many kinds of social media now and the competition is giving the public more benefits.

If you want to do content marketing, you must be open to using a lot of social sites. However, creating accounts on social sites and dropping links do not work. You need to have active presence, build a large fan following. If you have a large number of followers, then only you can benefit from social sharing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Not everyone's on that platform but it's good if you're trying to stay away from other social media and they don't show in public how much followers you have (well, if you care). For business purposes, it's not worth it at all, just stick to Facebook/Instagram for marketing, however It is worth using if you're bored or you just don't have anything else to do.
