Google has been vague about their standards for SEO website optimisation. They have starters guides etc. With particular questions it seems they don't have answers.
For example, does the word order in a title tag matter?
Do:Focus on what is best for the users of your site.
Don't:
Focus on optimizing your website for Google.
What are the most important Do's and Don'ts?
Well the first thing that comes to my mind is that you should never steal content. Always write it with your own words, and keep it as original and unique from your Point-of-View as possible. Google loves this, and make sure to add social sharing functionalities on your content to increase SERP from it being a talkative subject on the social media sites.

What I remember with the SEO violation is the duplicate content. The first and foremost SEO method is the uploading of new content which should be unique, well written and relevant to the niche of the site. If the content is copied then that is a mortal sin. Keyword stuffing is also not recommended which means you have to be moderate with the number of keywords that you will tag your contents with.What I remember with the SEO violation is the duplicate content.
