How to reduce lag on your phone?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and I had it for nearly two years. Recently, it seems to lag a lot. For example, I have the Skype and Gmail app on my phone and I get push notifications for them. From time to time, it would freeze for a few seconds when the push notifications come up. This has happened to me in the past with other android phones and I find that android phones tends to lag after 1-2 years.

In the past, I have tried doing factory resets and it seems to be smooth again for a few weeks but the lag would come back. I try to reduce the apps I download and it seems to be helping a bit. My question is, how can I reduce the lag of my phone? I know it is probably time I buy a new phone but I do want to use it for another few months.

As mentioned above, factory reset will only work for the short term or at least with me. Factory reset does remove all your files and settings but you can just backup everything onto your SD card, assuming you are using an android phone that has a SD slot. This is one of the advantages with android phones. Also, some other apps have their own backup service like Whatsapp and Wechat. You can also move your other apps onto your SD card so all data is stored there so when you download them again there, it should have the data remaining.

This was a great topic, I would love to hear some tips as well!
I have a Sony Xperia Z5 and I'm totally satisfied with it. I love Sony and I've had all the phones from the Xperia Z series. However, I have noticed major lag when I try to delete messages for instance. Also when I'm trying to use the camera. I press the camera button and it seems like nothing happens, but about 30 seconds later, the camera is on and I can take photos. I've never had these issues with the previous versions. All of them have been totally fine. I've tried to delete a lot of photos, files and all that, to clear some memory, but that doesn't help.. I have done a factory reset too but the lag still remains.

This a good topic guys, given i know the product of samsung few years ago are quite good and very lightly ,, could you installed some apps causes lag? may you have to tweak your phone (root) , otherwise you can instal some clean master programs,
and regarding that if so you can also move apps to sd card to release some memory internal
..clear phone log, sms , also infect to our phone

I have a Samsung too, and it also lags a lot. I have tried everything from deleting apps, to photos and videos, but all for nothing. You could try using an sd card to see if it helps, but in my case it did not help that much. I don't know, maybe it is just me, but I think the lag is something that is there as a nuisance to make you replace your mobile because you end up feeling nauseated with it, and that it is outdated. Sort of to push you to make a purchase after a certain number of years.

Yes, I have tried that too and it didn’t help at all for me. I agree with you that it was probably designed to lag after like 2 years so you could replace your phone. I think it may be caused by the CPU and ram getting old so it is starting to have performance issues. In that case, there is nothing you can do other than buying a brand new phone. That is also a good reason why you should never get refurbished phones. However, it will be nice if someone can come up with a solution to fix this issue without buying a new phone.

Hi thanks for nice question. Yes I suffered with same issue for my previous phone like Samsung. I think it may problem with any Samsung series mobile phone. And cause may happened very much when your mobile phone getting old like 1 or 2 years you have used. And it will slow and hang frequently. Yes factory reset may get you comfort temporary for few weeks. But ultimately you have to change it. And this type of problem may notify to you, yes time is come for new one. Beside I am using Sony series now and my phone is Sony xperia C5 ultra and I do not get such type of problem still. So, you can try with Sony.
