Do family problems/ circumstances affect your work performance, or do you manage to keep working?

This past weekend I have had various things to see to - it seems that everything went wrong, one thing after another. On Friday I had to be present for my family as they were going through a difficult moment. On Saturday, as tired as I was I had to face an emergency situation at home which involved a lot of clean up, worrying, several calls, and problems with the neighbors too. I am truly exhausted and have ended up not even glancing at what I was supposed to do in terms of orders. In such situations, do you manage to continue working? Or do you just stop like me because of tiredness and the inability to concentrate. I am feeling so downcast and really hope to recover soon!

It really depends, there are times that I take some things in my stride but there are other times that I really wobble and struggle to get anything done.

It really depends on my state of mind and physical health at the time in addition to severity of the challenges I am faced with.

My advice is to just to try and focus on your family and your health first and foremost. If you continue to push yourself it can only end up worse in my experience.

I can only speak for myself. I am bipolar and I am a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. I am clean and in recovery so I am not like a raging problem right now. My concern for myself is that I cannot forget about my problems and I need to always put my mental health first in everything.

If I don't do that I could be faced with serious problems. I could relapse and then what happens to my little family, my marriage and my work. So I put myself first in all things all the time. This is not selfish, it is common sense.

In the same way if you don't put yourself first your health and family will pay the price.

If you can't cope with getting orders out then quickly ask for extensions for orders that are in the pipeline. What people do with that is out of your control.

Be kind to yourself and I really hope that you feel better soon.

Yes Lynne, I know what you mean. Worrying and stressing out on such things will make you feel tired and frustrated, and as you try to work as usual, you tend to get more and more tired. I agree that in certain cases it is best to put the work to a sideline, and try to resolve problems or issues that are proving to be affecting your life first.

I would say yes it does as much as i would like to say no. Working at home makes this even harder to deal with. I have been lucky to be able to move my business into the garage and separate my personal life from my work for the most part. I would say to just keep your head up and keep pushing keep working. I do not let anything stop me from making money because the simple fact is no matter how bad of a day im having my kids still need to be fed. Also sometimes working can help you keep your mind off of things that are stressing you out. Good luck man and things will get better don't worry. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your reply. It has indeed been one hell of a weekend and thankfully a good part of the problems have been resolved. There are still some pending issues which I am trying to keep off my mind so as to manage to concentrate on my work. I hate it when several things go wrong, and sometimes it seems as if everything is scheduled to go wrong, one after the other! Thank you for your advice. Trying to keep working, even at a slower pace, does help a bit to forget about problems and issues.

I personally can't handle everything at once, especially when it happens like it happened to you, like family plus day job plus family plus other problems all seem to come at once leaving me little room to even sleep. That's when I get late on my orders here on SEOclerks! Most of the times I do my best to deliver everything and make up for the late delivery to the sellers, this usually gets me even more tired but it's worth it in the end.

I also had what I called "resets" when I just canceled all my active orders, suspended all my orders for a while and get back to seoclerks once I had the time and a clear mind.

Oh yes. It has been one hell of a week. It has been so hectic that I do not know how the time went by! I agree with you that at times it is best to hit pause on the work if possible, because it is really almost impossible to concentrate on work when there are various things and problems bothering you at the back of your mind. I always feel that family comes first, and if clients can bear with you during such times it is just great. Luckily I have had some very reasonable and helpful buyers.

Family problems and other circumstances affect my work performance, however, I never stop working. For instance, few months ago when my wife delivered the baby, I sat by my wife side all the while working on my laptop. When I had to attend my wife, I stopped working, and after I was done, I continued working. However, my performance was not in full potential. It took 3 hours to write an article which I could normally write in 2 hours.

There is a saying here that life goes on no matter what happens. When my mother suffered a stroke, I felt like life was at a standstill. I was in the hospital every day for 1 week until my mother was released from confinement. You can imagine the backlog in my work. That made me realize that when adversities strike, we still have to continue working otherwise there is a high price to pay for the momentary stagnation.

Honestly, we are all human beings and once things concerning the family goes negative, there is always that possibility that it will affect those that work at some place. For instance, I am always careful of my personal relationships for it can bring some negatives if not checked well.
